Message from the Chancellor

Bismillahirramanirahim.

Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

First of all, let us offer our praise and gratitude to Allah SWT, because only for His mercy and love we can still feel the independence of Indonesia. On this good occasion, on behalf of the academic community of the University of Muhammadiyah Riau, I conveyed the words, "Congratulations on the Independence of the 70th Republic of Indonesia". May Allah SWT bless all the development efforts carried out by this nation towards a just and prosperous Indonesian society.

UMRI as part of the Muhammadiyah Da'wah movement strives to realize national development. We strive to continue to play a role in advancing the world of education, especially higher education, so that our higher education is more affordable and more quality for all Indonesian people. This intention is in line with the line of struggle of the Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah which refers to the commands of the Qur'an, including the letter Ali Imran verse 104 which reads: And there should be a group of people who call on virtue, send to those who speak and prevent from evil; they are lucky people.

In the history of the Indonesian people, starting from the movement to realize independence towards 1945 until the movement to reform in 1998, the role of youth, students and universities joined in the Wadah Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah was always central. Muhammadiyah youth, students and colleges have always been the front guard in every important change in Indonesia. Now it is time for the University of Muhammadiyah as a university to carry out a movement to improve the quality of higher education, research and innovation to improve the nation's competitiveness.

The hopes of the Government and the public for education are increasing. Today, the community thinks it is not enough for universities to be able to carry out quality higher education. The community hopes that universities can support the nation's competitiveness through innovative research that can provide direct economic impact to society.

Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
